GE launches Cypress onshore wind platform for increased AEP

By Michelle Froese GE Renewable Energy launched its new onshore turbine platform, named Cypress, and the next model from that platform, GE’s 5.3-158 turbine. The platform advances the proven technology of GE’s 2 and 3-MW fleets, which serves an installed base of nearly 20 GW. It also uses architecture and innovations from the 4.8-158 turbine introduced in 2017.
Cypress incorporates the advanced technology from GE’s 2 and 3 MW platforms for increased annual energy production (AEP). In fact, the 5.3-158 Cypress model offers a 50% increase in AEP over the life of the turbine compared to the 3-MW platform.
