Japan Has More EV Charging Stations Than Gas Stations

By Jon LeSage While Japanese automakers have been advocating leadership in hydrogen-powered cars, the country has taken a lead in electric vehicle charging stations.
Japan now has more charging stations than gasoline stations, according to a recent study by Nissan. The Japanese automaker reports that there are more than 40,000 charging ports nationwide compared to fewer than 35,000 gas stations.
Nissan says that Japanese government subsidies for people buying electric vehicles have spawned a network of public and private charging stations.
“An important element of the continued market growth is the development of the charging infrastructure,” said Joseph Peter, Nissan’s chief finance officer.
