KenGen to fast track hydroelectric and geothermal deployment

By Elizabeth Ingram Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has announced a renewed plan to scale up the deployment of renewable energy by adding 3,000 MW.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Abraham Serem said the company revamped its corporate strategy and rolled out a 10-year strategy that seeks to add 3,000 MW. He further added that the company will be seeking to rehabilitate its existing power plants to make them more efficient for sustainable generation.

This new campaign will be driven largely by deploying up to 2,000 MW from geothermal and hydroelectric sources as baseload power to stabilize the country’s energy sources and diversify
