By [email protected] Large national solar installers may have better brand recognition and the backing of Wall Street banks, but they lag in one crucial area: pricing.
In fact, quotes from big installers are 10 percent higher than those generated by mid- and small-sized installers in the U.S., according to a new analysis from NREL. That amounts to 37 cents per watt on average — more than the cost of an inverter and racking combined.
That can mean thousands of dollars in additional cost to the homeowner.
So what gives? Why are large installers pricing their installations so much higher than their smaller, local competitors?
