New York examines barriers to solar+storage in report

By Kathie Zipp Solar is soaring in New York. The New York Public Service Commission voted to approve an order that will protect the rights of residential solar homeowners and grandfather some community and commercial solar customers into current rates. The governor also recently announced the state’s solar power has increased nearly 800% in five years.
You would think with events like Hurricane Sandy, backing up solar installations in New York would be a welcomed move, but adding storage hasn’t been so easy. For example, without incentives for storage, battery costs remain high and more education and outreach is also needed.
